My Journey Through Personal Growth
The Lord is amazing! When I think of His goodness, I can’t help but praise Him! The Lord, my Father, saved me when I was at my lowest. It seemed like I was doomed to a life of poor communication and people skills. I felt that wasn’t right. How can someone be born into that? I knew I had to do something about it. Originally, I didn’t know what.
I started going out in public and talking with people. That didn’t work and was a major flop. My confidence was shot. Completely gone. The embarrassment I felt from those interactions caused me to not sleep well for months. I would not suggest doing that.
I started working. That was somewhat helpful. I don’t know if that's what I needed at that specific time, but it’s what I got and how it ended up. I certainly learned quite a bit from that, but it was so stressful that I couldn’t go most days without having a panic attack. So clearly something was off.
Then I started working on myself, reading books, watching videos, and listening to podcasts. By far, this has improved me as a person the most. I’ve learned so much from this strategy.
There are a few things I wish I did differently, of course. I should have implemented the strategy of only reading what was relevant to me, not just anything I could get my hands on. Of course, there’s the added benefit of a wide variety you will ingest if you don’t use this tactic. After all, you never know where that one nugget lies that might change your life.
I should’ve and could’ve taken better notes. This is good for keeping a record of the nuggets you get from educating yourself and looking back to see how far you’ve come. I did take some notes, but there was definitely some benefit I’ve missed because I should’ve taken more.
One of the reasons I’ve loved watching videos and listening to podcasts is the fact that I can do that while also doing other things. With my current situation, this is the best way for me to learn something. You can listen to someone give their life story while you do the dishes. You can watch someone give a talk on ‘How to Be a Better Friend’ while you fold your laundry. You can listen to someone pour motivation into you while you go for your daily walk. There’s so much you can do with these two things!
